Tom Gray

Group CTO and Director of Innovation at Kainos

Tom is a 30-year tech veteran and is Group CTO and Director of Innovation at Kainos Group plc. Tom is an active investor in local and national tech startups and holds a number of non-exec director positions in tech startups. Tom Gray graduated from Queen’s University Belfast, holds a BSc. in Computer Science, and has studied Innovation Management at MIT Sloan. Tom has been the driving force behind many of Kainos’ most innovative and successful customer and staff initiatives, including HealthHackEU, Kainos AppCamp, CodeCamp and Code4Derry. He founded and curates the content for the annual BelTech conference, which has a strong focus on emerging Digital technology. From 2016-2018, Tom was Director of Digital Catapult NI, established Digital Catapult’s NI presence and was responsible for the development of the Immersive Lab. Tom is Deputy-Chair of the MATRIX ICT panel and a member of the CCEA Regulatory Advisory Panel. He is Chairman of the Ulster University Industrial Liaison Board, and holds a number of non-exec director positions in tech startups. Tom is past-Chair of the IET in Northern Ireland.

Alastair is the Chief Technology Officer at Analytics Engines where he is responsible for technology strategy, solution architecture and innovation. Alastair gained his PhD from QUB in 2009 focusing on high-performance computing and algorithms used in telecommunications

Austin focuses on developing AI solutions for organisations from range of sectors but with a particular focus on Central Government. Austin is also facilitator of the Northern Ireland Artificial Intelligence Collaborative Network and is the co-founder and organiser of the Artificial Intelligence NI community.

Austin completed his PhD in biomedical science in the University of Ulster and has career path that spans startups and multinationals from lab science to bioinformatics through to product management and commercialisation. Austin has a passion for new technology and its impacts on our society.

Fiona Browne is Head of Artificial Intelligence at Datactics with over 15 years research and industrial experience. Datactics specialise in data quality and matching at scale providing software solutions to clients in banking, financial services and government.

Prior to this Fiona Lectured in Computing Science at Ulster University teaching Data Analytics and undertaking research on applied artificial intelligence and data integration. She was a Research Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast and a Senior Software Developer at PathXL. Fiona received a BSc (Hons.) degree in Computing Science and a PhD on Artificial Intelligence in Bioinformatics from Ulster University.

Prior to joining BWB, Tim was the VP of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at Almac Diagnostics, and Associate Director of in silico Immunology at Johnson & Johnson. Timothy received his Bachelor of Applied Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto. He spent 2 years as a post-doctoral research scientist, joint appointed to the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, Department of Empirical Inference for Machine Learning and Perception, and the Institute for Developmental Biology, Department of Molecular Biology.
